Ragging to anyone is a synonym of violence, indignity and molestation. It is perhaps the most dreaded phase in life feared by each and every adolescent. The term has been so well popularized by instances of rapes and murders hitting the headlines. Despite the ban by The Supreme Court, its ripples can still be seen in many campuses. The authorities scuttle to wrap the complaints up, in a fear of tamper to the popularity of their institution. The vicious cycle goes on as the victims succumb to it in a hope to revenge upon their juniors. The perpetrators add on to the brutality year by year, placing themselves as metaphors of violence. It can be argued that milder forms of ragging necessarily speed up a student’s adaptation to a better disciplined atmosphere that most institutions provide. Whatever the argument be, ragging definitely exemplifies man’s innate urge to power upon deceased ones. This spread of this perilous habit from generations to generations has to be put to an end to. In this era of perishing EQ’s among adolescents, subjecting them to harsh phases of ragging further deteriorates their mental power and they easily succumb to depression. This worsens the condition and can be foreseen as a major threat our nation will have to face in future.
